One dollar, one song, for Puerto Rico – Francesca Blanchard’s ‘Maria’
Artist Francesca Blanchard was invited last year to play at a benefit concert for Puerto Rico. Wanting to personalize her contribution, she wrote a song about the emotional wreckage and destruction left behind by a woman. It is an allegory for Hurricane Maria, applying the themes of loss and heartbreak to the unpredictable forces of nature.
Since the beginning of this year, Blanchard has been selling her song, entitled “Maria,” on Bandcamp, with all the proceeds going toward the relief efforts on the island.
I’m a little behind sharing it, but it is still an easy way to collaborate with the Puerto Rico relief. Just one dollar gets you the song, which is rather lovely.

Received an update from the artist as follows:
"It has been two months since I released the song 'Maria,' which I wrote in response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
'Maria' has since raised a little over $1000. For a song that is selling for only $1 online, I am very grateful and proud of the support that this music has received.
After much research and deliberation, I'm excited to announce that I am giving the proceeds to PRIMA (Puerto Rico Independent Musicians and Artists) a grassroots, not-for-profit artist collective, whose mission is to help sustain the lives and careers of independent musicians living on the island post-Hurricane.
As an artist, I wanted to give to an organization I could relate to directly, and for these funds to have a specific and personal impact. There is still a very, very long way to go for Puerto Rico. It is my belief, and that of PRIMA's, that the arts not be overlooked in times like these. A vital tool in the preservation and reconstruction of a culture, music (and art as a whole) can be paramount in restoring and providing hope, faith, and inspiration."
To learn about PRIMA visit PrimaFund.org. The artist will continue to sell her song for $1 through March 30, 2018. If you want to own it and add to the donation, please read below.
