There’s lots of noise out there about VIDA, STARZ’s new show (released four days ago) about two Mexican-American sisters who are reunited in Boyle Heights upon their mother’s death. For us in Los Angeles, what is seen on the screen is familiar – the streets of East L.A., shots of downtown in the background, an English dialogue sprinkled with Spanish, Mexican music, tacos, and, for once, lots of brown faces. The show is based on a short story entitled Pour Vida, written by Richard Villegas Jr.

Watching the series will require a subscription to STARZ, but the first episode is now available free of charge here.
