La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is now presenting Disney’s NEWSIES, the fifth and final show of its 2017-2018 season. NEWSIES will run through Sunday, June 24, 2018.

The story is loosely based on the New York City newspaper delivery boys’ strike in the summer of 1899. NEWSIES started as a movie (1992) that didn’t do all that great. But then, in 2012 the stage version opened on Broadway, with new songs and new direction that got it a Tony award.

At La Mirada Theater, NEWSIES is presented with book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and directed and choreographed by Richard J. Hinds.

NEWSIES includes great songs like “Something to believe in,” and “Seize the Day,” but what distinguishes this musical from others is its amazing dance numbers, as young men fly through the air boasting moves that are basically athletic.  And the tap dancing is also a force to see. Musical director Brent Crayon conducts an orchestra of 12 musicians whose live performance completes the experience.

Every show presented at La Mirada Theatre is worthwhile entertainment. NEWSIES is no different. You will certainly enjoy this energetic musical.

Performances are Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30 pm; Fridays at 8:00 pm; Saturdays at 2:00 pm & 8:00 pm & Sundays at 2:00 pm. There will be an additional performance on Friday, June 22 at 1:00 pm. An Open-Captioned performance is scheduled on Saturday, June 16, at 2 pm and an ASL-interpreted performance on Saturday, June 23, at 2 pm.  There will also be a talkback with the cast and creative team on Wednesday, June 20.

Tickets range from $20 – $84 and can be purchased at La Mirada Theatre’s website or by calling the Box Office at (562) 944-9801 or (714) 994-6310. Student, Senior and group discounts are available.
