The Cuarteto de Guitarras de Costa Rica, composed by guitarists Manuel Durán, Edmundo Núñez, Julio Monge, and Nicolás Alvarado, performed in Los Angeles on Oct. 6, 2018, at the Eagle Rock Covenant Church. This was the quartet’s last presentation during its U.S. tour (which celebrated the group’s 10th anniversary), and one that was added exclusively for the enjoyment of the colonia Costarricense, with the support of the Consulado General de Costa Rica en Los Angeles.

The quartet performed nine beautiful works, the majority by Costa Rican composers like Edmundo Nunez, Allen Torres, Ray Tico, and Edin Solis. The guitarists took turns introducing each piece, speaking Spanish, which they said to enjoy since they had been speaking English throughout the tour.

The event was followed by a lovely dessert reception, in a locale adorned with typical tico details and by folks donning folkloric dresses and accessories.

The Cuarteto de Guitarras de Costa Rica has two albums available on Amazon.com – Eso es Imposible and Noche Caribe (click on the links to listen and purchase). The music is also available on most streaming platforms.
