If you want to treat your family to something special this holiday season, consider a performance of THE WONDERFUL WINTER OF OZ, now at the Pasadena Civic Center through Dec. 30.
THE WONDERFUL WINTER OF OZ is a holiday version of America’s favorite modern fairy tale in the style of a traditional British Family Panto, which uses modern songs to tell the story. On Christmas Eve, Dorothy gets swept away by a ‘freak’ Kansas blizzard and lands in a world of munchkins and witches. With songs from Imagine Dragons to Earth Wind and Fire, THE WONDERFUL WINTER OF OZ is a perfect opportunity to get the family dressed up and on to the theater.

You can expect a colorful show that will encourage you to cheer for Dorothy and her friends and boo against the wicked (although perfectly in tune) Witch of the West. Both the Witch (Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer) and the Cowardly Lion (Juan Pablo Di Pace) incorporate bits of Spanish dialogue that audience members who are bilingual will love.
Toto is a real dog that behaves quite well on stage thanks to plenty of doggie treats, and the Wizard of Oz is none other than Kermit the Frog! (If I must be honest, I’m not a quite a kid, but I was thrilled to see Kermit.) Although this is a family show, the writing is quite clever, keeping the adults consistently amused and the children thoroughly entertained.
Tickets start at $40 and Family Four Packs are $99 and can be purchased online at www.thepasadenacivic.com or by calling 626-449-7362. Golden Tickets, which allow the ticket holder (children ages 4 – 12 only) a special on-stage experience during the production, are available for an additional $75.00 each.
The Pasadena Civic Auditorium is located at 300 East Green Street, in Pasadena, CA 91101
