The Pasadena Tournament of Roses announced today 20 of the bands that will participate in the 131st Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed “The Power of Hope.” The bands will include The Banda Municipal de Zarcero, from Alajuela, Costa Rica, as well as bands from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico; Puebla, Mexico; El Salvador; Japan; Denmark; and various states from the USA. (The 20 bands selected are listed alphabetically below.) Two additional bands will be added to the line-up when the universities participating in the 106th Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual are determined.
The bands were selected by volunteer members of the Tournament of Roses based on a variety of factors, such as musicianship, marching ability, and entertainment value. In order to be considered the bands submitted applications, photos, videos, and letters of recommendation. Throughout the year the bands will be organizing fundraisers to support the needed funds to attend the parade. In addition to marching the five-and-a-half-mile Rose Parade route on New Year’s Day, these bands will perform in one of three Bandfest events scheduled for Dec. 29 and 30, 2019.
