A screening of It’s a Wonderful Life will take place at the Sierra Madre Playhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. The price of admission is a gift (per person) to be donated to the Hope House.
It’s a Wonderful Life stars James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Mitchell, Henry Travers, and Gloria Grahame. It was produced and directed by Frank Capra. It’s in black-and-white, from 1946, 150 minutes long, rated PG. In it, an angel is sent from heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.
Hope House operates 12 homes in the area for individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism and other mental health challenges. Half of the homes serve children and young adults, ages 7 to 22. Its wish list for gifts includes arts and crafts/activity sets, puzzles, board games, markers and coloring books, bath towels and wash cloths, basketballs, portable basketball hoops, solid color bedding sets (twin and full), flat screen TVs, chargers and charging cords, a fax machine, and sofas, among other things. Whatever you can donate will be warmly appreciated. In return, you get to see a great classic film.
There will be a film historian present at the screening to provide interesting commentary on the film.
