The Skirball Cultural Center’s final 2020 Skirball Stages will feature East L.A.’s Chicano folk band Las Cafeteras and Latin Grammy-nominated Brazilian singer Xênia França on Nov. 21, at 8 pm PST. The free, virtual concert will be premiering on Skirball’s YouTube channel.
Telling modern-day stories of Chicano life in Southern California, Las Cafeteras will offer their uplifting blend of Afro-Mexican beats, hip-hop, and rancheras.
Greeting you from a set filmed exclusively for the series in Brazil, Xênia França will invite you to soak up the traditional rhythms of Bahia, mixed with a pulsing blend of electronica, jazz, and R&B.
If you live near the Skirball center, you could also enjoy Skirball Suppers, a four-course meal available for pre-order (until Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 4pm) and carry-out on the night of the premiere (Saturday, Nov. 21, between 5 pm and 7:15 pm). The menu was conceived by Executive Chef Sean Sheridan and will feature dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of Mexico and Brazil. These suppers are $42 per person.
