This is a great hike with panoramic views of San Pedro and the Long Beach Port, lightly transited even on a Saturday afternoon. From the highest point of the trail, one can see everything from downtown LA to the San Gabriel Mountains.
The Nature Center’s building is closed, but Fowler Trail behind it is open to all, free of charge. If you have little ones, there’s also a play area in front of the Center and picnic tables with wonderful views of Long Beach.

Your legs will feel the gains during the trek up the hill. It is, however, not too difficult. I’d qualify it from easy to moderate. Bring water for the hike; a picnic if you wish. This can make for a great afternoon outdoors and can be easily combined with other nearby attractions; the Korean Friendship Bell, for example.
The Deana Dana Friendship Park and Nature Center is located at 1805 West 9th St., San Pedro, CA 90732. Click here for more information.
