If you’re looking for something to do this holiday weekend, consider watching the film FRENCH EXIT, which screens, starting today, at the Vineland Drive-In theater.
In the film, Michelle Pfeiffer plays Frances Price, a widowed New York socialite whose money has started to run out. She’s forced to sell her expensive art and furniture collection and decides to escape the city by cruise ship and relocate to a friend’s empty Paris apartment. Her son Malcolm (played by Lucas Hedges), and their cat, Small Frank (inside of whom the soul of her late husband supposedly lives), come along for the adventure. Once in Paris, they consider their past, plan for an impossible future, and gather a number of odd friends.
This is a dark comedy with elegant sets and costumes. The performances (especially Pfeiffer’s) keep your interest to the end. She has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy for this role.
FRENCH EXIT is based on a book with the same title by Patrick DeWitt, who also wrote the screenplay. The film is rated R, 113 minutes long, in English.
The Vineland Drive-In is located at 443 N. Vineland Ave, City of Industry, CA 91746. Purchase tickets here.
