The second entry (out of ten) in writer August Wilson’s “American Century Cycle,” titled SEVEN GUITARS, is currently performing at A Noise Within, in Pasadena, directed by Gregg T. Daniel. The run will continue through Nov. 14, 2021.

SEVEN GUITARS was nominated for a Pulitzer because of the way it captures the spirit and heritage of Black Americans in the 20th century. The play is set in 1948 Pittsburgh, as old friends gather to mourn the death of a young guitarist and his dream of stardom. Like him, each character in the play has an unfulfilled dream. Also like him, each one fights for dignity and identity in a racist society that works against them.

This is the first play that A Noise Within is presenting live to an audience in the theater since the pandemic, and COVID safety is taken seriously. The HVAC system has undergone a deep cleaning for optimal turnover of fresh air, high-touch areas are routinely disinfected, and all protocols are being followed. Before being admitted into the theatre, all audience members must provide proof of full vaccination. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status. A Noise Within has required full vaccination for all staff, artists, and volunteers who work onsite. Social distanced seating is available upon request. More information about COVID protocols in this theater is available at anoisewithin.org/covidsafety.

All of the above precautions allow the audience to relax and truly enjoy SEVEN GUITARS’ enlightening dialogue, which is also full of heart, humor, and music.

Single ticket prices for SEVEN GUITARS start at $25 and are available at anoisewithin.org, by phone at 626-356-3121, and at the box office located at 3352 East Foothill Blvd in Pasadena, CA, 91107. Students with school I.D. can buy $20 tickets one hour before each performance. This play is 3-hours long, including a 15-minute intermission.
