Hernán Jiménez on the set of Love Hard

If you open your Netflix app right now you’ll see the film Love Hard as the number one recommendation. The movie was released Nov. 5 and it quickly became popular. It stars Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang, and Darren Barnet, and it was directed by Costa Rican director Hernán Jiménez. Harry Shum Jr., who is a supporting actor in the film and whom you may have first seen in Crazy Rich Asians, is also Costa Rican, born in Limón.

Give me two Costa Ricans in one same movie and you know I’ll be there, so I sat last night with a glass of champagne and a cut-up guava (appropriate much?) to watch it. It’s a fun rom-com. I’m not gonna lie, definitely predictable, but perfect for getting you in the mood for the holiday season. It’s about a catfish, the online dating type.

I liked it, and not only on account of the Costa Ricans. It’s not only me.  Love Hard has a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
