If you’re looking for a joyful, music-filled evening that’ll make you forget the hassles of the day, I recommend you catch FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME at the Pasadena Playhouse.
I attended the show last week and I’m certain you’ll love it, although the performance you’ll see will be different from the one I saw. That’s because the cast takes cues from each audience to move along the performance, creating a brand new show every night.
FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME was created by Anthony Veneziale (who performs in this production at the Playhouse), Thomas Kail (who directs it), and Lin-Manuel Miranda (yes, way before The Heights and Hamilton were a thing, the famous Lin-Manuel was here).
A cast of ten, plus special guests (such as Wayne Brady), is the incredibly talented group of artists who can keep the rhythm, play and dance to the music, and deliver improvised lyrics, all without missing a beat. Add to that an explosive lighting design by Jeff Croiter and flawless sound by Nevin Steinberg and it’s truly a party at the Playhouse!
The show is upbeat, hilarious, even irreverent, and yet, also quite touching – there’s a lot of humanity in it. It’s 90-minutes long, without an intermission, and it’ll send you home in the best of spirits.
