If you are a fan of the Downton Abbey TV show, and live within driving distance of the History Museum of Mobile, don’t miss their current exhibit – Dressing the Abbey – which features 35 costumes worn by the actors during the taping of the show. From gorgeous evening gowns to footman’s livery, the outfits in this exhibition speak about the changes in fashion and the moments in history depicted in this popular TV series.
The exhibit will be displayed through April 22, 2023. Tickets are not sold in advance; only at the door. Your ticket gives you access to other exhibits in the museum, including Dressing Mobile, which shows a few dresses that were worn by Mobile’s society in the 1920s, and Setting the Table, a set-up of a formal table from the same period, with explanations of its rules and customs.

If you want to add flair to your visiting experience, check the events that are associated with the exhibit. I attended the “Scottish Spirits and Smokes” last week and it was worth the price. Coming up are a jazz brunch, a ballroom dancing class, a 1920s cocktail class, and a couple of high teas. Tickets into these special events include access into the exhibit.
