With an amazing onstage rainstorm and artists that can all sing, act, and dance, La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is currently presenting SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, with screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed. This production is directed and choreographed by Spencer Liff (Emmy nominee for TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance”) with musical direction by Keith Harrison.

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN tells a story set in the 1920s, at the time when the “talkies” were first hitting the movie theaters. Lina Lamont and Don Lockwood are famous silent movie actors now facing a “sound problem.” Lina is beautiful, but the same cannot be said of her voice. Kathy Selden, on the other hand, has a gorgeous voice but lacks stardom. You better believe that they’re coming up with a plan to remain on the spotlight!

At La Mirada, “Don Lockwood” is performed by Michael Starr, a wonderful singer and dancer that delivers the main song of the show – “Singin’ in the Rain” – fantastically. He is helped by an amazing stage, on which it rains torrents and where the actor ends up looking like he really danced under a storm. This scene alone makes making the outing worth your time.

Brandon Burks is “Cosmo Brown,” Lockwood’s childhood friend. Together, they inject humorous moments into the show. Sara King is “Lina Lamont.” Her “What’s Wrong with Me” song in Act 2 is another highlight of the night. Kimberly Immanuel is “Kathy Selden.” Teamed up with Starr and Burks, she delivers the second most popular song of the musical – “Good Morning.”

These four principal artists are supported by another twenty actors, dancers, and singers, each of them uber talented. Add to that a flawless 14-piece orchestra, and do not doubt that you are in for an outstanding show.

Performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm; Fridays at 8:00 pm; Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. The show will perform through Sunday, May 12, 2019. Tickets range from $20 – $94 and can be purchased at La Mirada Theatre’s website or by calling the La Mirada Theatre Box Office at (562) 944-9801. $15 Student Tickets are available for the first 15 performances of the production.
