Sideral (2021) is a 16-minute, live action short film directed by Carlos Segundo that is currently shortlisted for a 2023 Oscar award.
The short tells of a family living in the north of Brazil, near the area where the country’s first space rocket is about to be launched. The husband is a mechanic… and unfaithful. The wife works as a cleaning lady and is tired… so she finds a way to shake things up.
In a collaboration of teams from Brazil and France, Sideral was filmed in black and white using only a Fujifilm pocket camera. Now it’s competing for an Academy Award against 14 other shorts.
